Summer Mission Trip In Baytown!

Destination: San Francisco!

Mission:    The goals of the Urban Mission Trip are to engage in ministry that supports people in need and experience getting around in a strange city using only mass transit.

Dates: July 5-11, 2015

This will include service experiences such as serving meals, taking multiple roles in a day shelter, and childcare/teaching.   These opportunities will be leading toward deeper reflections on our affluence & privilege, the systems that grind people daily and maintain economic and social stratification, and how Jesus calls us to be makers of justice in these strata.

San Francisco is the most densely settled large city (population greater than 200,000) in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City.  The city is believed to have the highest number of homeless inhabitants per capita of any major U.S. city.  San Francisco has a minority-majority population, as non-Hispanic whites comprise less than half of the population, 41.9%, down from 92.5% in 1940.[42] The principal Hispanic groups in the city were those of Mexican (7.4%), Salvadoran (2.0%), Nicaraguan (0.9%), Guatemalan (0.8%), and Puerto Rican (0.5%), ancestry.

Estimated Cost per person: $480.00  We plan to use current fundraising for 1/3, in the bank mission trip fundraising from the past for another 1/3, and families 1/3 (which is about $150).  If current fundraising exceeds the 1/3 we will apply that to reducing the per person donation.

Deposit Commitment   $50 by March 25th.  Verbal Commitments as soon as possible.

Fundraising: Flamingo Fundraiser, 50/50 raffle, bake sale.

I AM WONDERING ABOUT INTEREST AND POTENTIAL FOR HAVING A RAFFLE FOR TWO TICKETS FOR THE SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL WITH MUMFORD AND SONS etc.  I was thinking we buy two and raffle them for $20.  If we promote it well I think we could have an awesome fundraiser.   What do you think???

Let's discuss in the comments below!

Finally two songs about SF..not by any of our summer bands.
